On this page you find publications on Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECR) with a focus on the Pierre Auger Observatory within the Helmholtz . S remains a state-of-the art instrument with a maximum rigidity of GeV/c, an energy resolution of , an energy range of 10%, and a large angular accep-tance: ∆θ = 10° and ∆φ = 7°. The S was used in many pioneering experiments and plays a crucial role in the NSCL’s rare-isotope research program. Pis the 4-momentum of the nucleon with mass M, and Wis the invariant mass of the recoiling system X. The exchange is a virtual photon, whose 4-momentum is q= l− l′. The right panel shows the fundamental process, where the lepton is interacting with a quark inside the nucleon. The quark’s original 4-momentum is k= xbj P in the light File Size: 16MB. Transverse momentum spectra for charged hadrons and for neutral pions in the range 1 Gev/c P-T. 5 GeV/c have been measured by the PHENIX experiment at RHIC in Au + Au collisions at rootS(NN) = GeV. At high p(T) the spectra from peripheral nuclear collisions are consistent with scaling the spectra from p + p collisions by the average number.

Antideuteron and deuteron production in mid-central Pb+Pb collisions at A GeV T. Anticic, 22 B. Baatar, 8 D. Barna, 4 J. Bartke, 6 H. Bec k, 9 L. Betev, 10 H. Bia lkow ska, Transverse momentum spectra are measured from up to 3 GeV/ c for pions, from up to 6 GeV/ c for kaons and from up to 6 GeV/ c for protons.

The measured spectra and particle ratios are compared with quantum chromodynamics-inspired models, tuned to reproduce also the earlier measurements performed at the by: than about – GeV/ c and underpredicts it at higher momenta.

At high p T,t h e p T spectra shapes of pions and kaons are rather well reproduced for momenta above 1 and GeV/ c. ton and deuteron beams with a momentum up to GeV/c, is an ideal machine for the development and commissioning of the necessary technology.

This R&D work has recently replaced COSY’s previous hadron-physics programme of particle production and rare decays, although some other service and user activities continue. Comparing the measured azimuthal anisotropy of the deuteron momentum distributions to the proton distributions, the STAR experiment [] observed a mass number scaling in the GeV \(/c\) region leading to the conclusion that the mechanism of light nuclei formation at RHIC energies is mainly due to the coalescence of by: High energy colliding beam machines for elementary particle research have grown so costly that funding for them has become problematical.

The physics they would explore, however, remains compelling, so that new methods must be found to reach high. This book deals with the latest developments in the area of three-quark systems. Emphasis is given to the discussion of new experimental results in the areas of form factors, unpolarized and polarized structure functions, and baryon structure and spectroscopy.

Book description Fully updated for the second edition, this book introduces the growing and dynamic field of particle astrophysics. It provides an overview of high-energy nuclei, photons and neutrinos, including their origins, their propagation in the cosmos, their detection on Earth and their relation to each by: HERA offers the unique opportunity to study the dependences of diffractive processes on several momentum scales: the mass of the vector meson m v, the center-of-mass energy of the γp system W, the photon virtuality Q 2, and the four-momentum transfer squared at the proton vertex t.

precision. J/ψ resonances are reconstructed in their di-muon decay channel in the rapidity interval and over the transverse-momentum interval 2 GeV / c. The three polarization parameters (λθ, λφ, λθφ) are measured as a function of pT both in the helicity and Collins-Soper reference frames.

Pseudo-rapidity distributions of charged particles from a variety of targets are also shown. An example of a proximity-focusing RICH detector, used to discriminate kaons from pions with particle momentum up to GeV/c, is that described by Mammoliti et al.

The detector utilizes cm-thick liquid Freon (C 6 F 14) as the radiator and a CsI photoconverter separated by a distance of only 10 cm for Cherenkov ring imaging. Relativistic particles; Relativistic particle; Filed under: Particles, Relativistic.

At Saturne, we made a neutral beam at an angle of 90° to the internal beam. The mean momentum of the K L beam was MeV/c. At this low momentum, pions and muons from the K L decay could be separated by range, and electrons could be identified by showering or by the production of sparks beyond the range of a pion or a muon.

At the RHIC and LHC, the trends of k π and μ π in central Au–Au (Pb–Pb) collisions are close to other particles or INEL or NSD p p collisions due to the insignificant contribution to pions and other particles.

From above a few GeV to above 10 TeV, the yield ratios approach 1 and the chemical potentials approach by: 1. This experiment studied the quark structure of the p meson, using the Drell-Yan process of m + m-pair creation via a virtual photon in p-nucleus collisions.

The data from E demonstrated that the momentum distribution of the valence quarks inside the pion extends to much larger fraction x of the pion's total momentum than is the case for quarks inside a proton or neutron.

The proton has a mass of GeV/c 2. In general, the masses of all hadrons are of the order of 1 GeV/c 2, which makes the GeV (gigaelectronvolt) a convenient unit of mass for particle physics: 1 GeV/c 2 = ×10 −27 kg.

The coulomb binary collisions between the particles of the beam are able to transfer part of the kinetic energy of the transverse degrees, which are not affected by the laser cooling, in the longitudinal one, bringing the ions outside the velocity capture range of the spontaneous force and making them effectively lost for the cooling cycle.

where A denotes the target nucleus. For A = p, this is a standard exercise in relativistic kinematics to demonstrate that the kinetic energy of the incoming proton should be higher than 6 m, where m is the proton mass, and c = 1. This threshold decreases if the target A is more massive. The Bevatron was completed inand the antiproton was discovered in by a team lead.
