The Craigmillar Festival Society (CFS) was a community arts organisation that existed in the Craigmillar area of Edinburgh, Scotland from to It is regarded as important contributor to the Community Arts Movement. Starting inmany of its productions involved Craigmillar Castle.

Craigmillar (Scottish Gaelic: Creag a' Mhuilleir), from the Gaelic Creag Maol Ard, meaning 'High Bare Rock', is an area of Edinburgh, Scotland, about 3 miles ( km) south east of the city centre, with Duddingston to the north and Newcraighall to the east. 2 Historical maps.

Made inthis community made documentary shows the work of the ground-breaking Craigmillar Festival Society. Mary, Queen of Scots, and her time at Craigmillar Castle, and ‘Little France’ The Scottish nobility frequently took a break from living in Edinburgh Castle or Holyrood to spend time in Craigmillar Castle.

Craigmillar was a relaxing bolt-hole away from the centre of the city – and a good place to avoid the frequent outbreaks of the plague. One of the better-known events in Edinburgh is the annual Craigmillar Community Festival in the greater Craigmillar Area.

This is organised in partnership with other local groups to showcase local talent. By providing a venue for the artists to showcase what they can do, CCA is giving them opportunities. ‘Art was always used at Craigmillar as a frontline activity, as a language of regeneration: it was about fighting talk, where the people of Craigmillar would not take no for an answer.’ Craigmillar Festival Society was one of the pioneering community arts organisations in Britain.
